Community

The Resort Village of Kivimaa-Moonlight Bay extends our deepest support to the many communities, families, and emergency responders impacted by the wildfires currently burning across Saskatchewan.

As of May 28, 2025, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) has reported 19 active wildfires, with 9 uncontained. This wildfire season has already seen over 200 fires, well above the five-year average of 123 for this time of year.

To help mitigate further risk, the SPSA has issued an expanded provincial fire ban covering:

  • Vacant Crown land

  • Provincial parks within the provincial forest

  • The Northern Saskatchewan Administrative District

This ban prohibits open fires, controlled burns, ATVs, and fireworks in all affected areas.

We encourage all residents and visitors to take these restrictions seriously and help prevent human-caused wildfires. Even small actions—such as properly extinguishing a campfire or avoiding travel through dry grass, can save lives and protect our province’s natural beauty.

Let’s continue to stand together in support of our neighbours across Saskatchewan.

Turtle lake lakeshore and watershed management study

We are all very aware of how the health of the lake affects us and our activities here.  The health of the lake and the shoreline is why the Village has agreed to participate in a regional water study.  Attached find a link to the first information sheet released by Wallace Insights, the company in charge of public engagement and policy.  Your participation will help make this study a success!

Please note two new bylaws on the website--Bylaw 01/25 increases the fees for tax certificates to $25.00 and Bylaw 02/25 increases the assessment appeal fee from $50.00 to $200.00.  Neither of these two bylaws had been changed for 20 years, so it was time to bring them up to date.

Thank you to all who participatd in the speed bump/speed limit/CSO plebiscite!  We appreciate your input!  Please note for future reference that as the Village does not have access to a Community Safety Officer, all traffic complaints will have to be handled by the RCMP.

Annual Prunning Ban

Saskatchewan’s annual province-wide prunning ban on elm trees runs from April 1 to August 31 each year.  This ban is a way to stop the spread of Dutch elm disease as elm bark beetles are attracted to freshly pruned trees.

  • If trees are overhaning your power line and you feel it is a fire hazard you can call Sask Power at 888-757-6937.  You will need your lot and block number when you make the call.
